While mainly known as a folk guitarist,
Jon has another life as a composer
of deeply ambient electronic soundscapes.
Reviewers have called his music
“New Age with a dark edge”
and have described it as
“music for a starlit night”.
Whatever the description,
happy listeners have enjoyed Jon’s recordings
for over fifteen years.
Some use it for exercise, relaxation
 or meditation.
Others just sit back and listen.

Jon lives in Devon, England with his wife, Linda, intermittently wandering children and miscellaneous animals.

Linda is an important part of Big Bear Recordings, as she doesn't let Jon's more ambitious plans get out of hand!

As well as composing and playing various styles of music, Jon also runs a mobile recording facility, plays as a session musician and acts as a consultant for CD projects.

Over the years, Jon has run a co-operative for electronic musicians, written for several magazines and helmed Mixmusic, the label on which Jon and Linda released thirteen titles including Jon's own "A Wheel of Stars" and "Cat Songs to an Ancient Moon". At the same time, in collaboration with Andy G. of Lotus Records fame, Jon co-produced the original "Syntrax", a cassette based magazine.

In 1990, Jon, along with Martin Dearmun, formed Drumbeg to play at the U.K. Electronica festival held in Sheffield, England and produced two albums with this band. Jon and Martin also released an improvised album as a duo.

These days, Jon is working on more ambient/meditational music and is also playing in a traditional folk band - The Lucy Lastic Band, which is gaining quite a following in the South-West of England.

Jon currently releases his music through his own production company and record label "Big Bear Recordings"
